Located just next to the Sunflower Farmer’s Market at Broadway & Pantano, La Baguette Parisenne is an east-side Tucson gem. The delicious smells of the bakery waft across the parking lot – and the smell draws scores of people in. Sometimes the lines are out the door and down the sidewalk, but it’s worth the wait.
Prices are low, and the baked goods are perfection. Their famous Parisien loaf is only $1.65, and is perfectly flaky and crusty on the outside, and soft and airy on the inside. Their wide variety of breads also includes country loaves, whole grain, rye, soft yeasty dinner rolls, and crusty sub rolls. Rolls start at just $0.20 each, and the loaves of bread vary – but are all reasonably priced.
But, they don’t stop at bread! There is also a case full of delicious, decadent pastries. I can personally vouch for the chocolate croissants and apple strudels, and my daughter loves the smiley face sugar cookies.
The staff is always friendly, and greet many regular customers by name. In addition, they almost always offer my daughter a free small roll to snack on while we wait in line.
One important note: like the La Mesa Tortilla Factory a few doors down, they only take cash or local checks, no credit cards. Lines do get long, and sometimes they sell out of one item or another, so either get there early, or call ahead and have them set aside specific items for you.
