Sometimes my husband and I get to meet for lunch on weekdays. One of our newly discovered favorites is Ha Long Bay on Broadway Blvd. and Wilmot Road. It was our out-of-town in-laws who actually introduced us to it.
Do you know the legend of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam? It goes something like this…
Long ago when the Việt people were being invaded by their enemies, the Jade Emperor sent Mother Dragon and her little Dragons down to earth to help them fight against their enemy. Just as the invaders’ boats reached the shore, the dragons landed and hurled thousands of pearls from their mouths, which turned into stone islands emerging in the sea like great walls blocking the invaders’ boats. The boats crashed into the islands and broke into pieces. After the victory, the Mother Dragon and little Dragons didn’t return to heaven but stayed on earth at the place where the battle had occurred.
The exterior is unassuming and makes it a little bit difficult to find (it is located in the El Mercado Shopping Center). When you step inside you're greeted with tropical decor and friendly staff.
I appreciate the flavorful and unique use of fresh vegetables and authentic Vietmemese ingredients. The Fresh Summer Rolls are a delicious blend of shrimp, sticky rice rolls, and vegetables. The Curry Basil Chicken is just spicy enough and delicious with the steamed rice and crispy roll.
The lunch menu offers dishes that range from $6.25-7.95...a great value for the quality and proportions. The entire menu can be found on the Ha Long Bay website.
If you're looking for something a little different from your regular American fare, try something new and pay Ha Long Bay a visit.
