What to Expect at the Character Breakfast at Tucson Festival of Books

story-time

For the past four years, UA Bookstores has hosted a Character Breakfast on-site at the Tucson Festival of Books. As one of the only ticketed events at the festival, the breakfast is a special opportunity for kids (especially preschoolers!) to meet their favorite storybook characters in a more intimate setting.

1. What is the date and location of the 2014 Character Breakfast?

The 2014 Character Breakfast will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 8:00am in the North Ballroom of the Student Union on the campus of the University of Arizona. The address is 1303 E. University Blvd.

2. What is the cost?

$20 per person. The same price applies for children and adults. Little ones, ages 2 and under, are FREE.

3. How many people are expected to attend?

The UA Bookstores predicts that there will be approximately 250 attendees.

4. Where should we park?
Get on campus early! Approximately 120,000 people will attend the Festival in 2014! We recommend printing the Tucson Festival of Books Parking Map ahead of time to make your commute easier. With the exception of the Second Street Garage, all parking lots and garages are free and open to the public. Consider that it may take some time to park the car, unload the family, and walk to the event.
5. What is the agenda for the morning?

People gather and enjoy their breakfast, while seeing around 10 characters. There is a brief storytime where children will gather around the reader and a featured character. There will also be a raffle and each child will receive a book to take home! Finally, the attendees are invited to join a parade with the characters from the North Ballroom to the Festival of Books children's tents near the Education building on the UA Campus.

6. Which characters will be present at the breakfast?

Curious George, Clifford, Brother Bear and Sister Bear from The Berenstain Bears, Pout Pout Fish, Little Critter, and others will be there!

7. Will attendees have an opportunity to take photos with the characters?

Yes! Bring your camera. There will be many opportunities to take pictures with the characters. The UA BookStores also organizes character visits throughout the festival on Saturday and Sunday so you should always keep your eyes open!

8. Who is catering the menu? Is it a sit-down format or buffet-style?

The UA Student Union is providing the catering for the buffet-style breakfast. Menu items include bacon & egg breakfast biscuits, fresh toast sticks, fresh fruit cups, and hash brown tots. Orange juice, white or chocolate milk, and coffee/tea service will also be provided.

9. Will highchairs be available?

Yes.

10.  What is the duration of the event?

The Character Breakfast is from 8:00am-9:30am. The parade portion will begin at approximately 9am.

11. Who does the breakfast benefit?

UA BookStores have subsidized the cost of the event every year as ticket sales do not cover the actual costs of the event.

As an integral part of the division of Student Affairs, the UA Bookstores are a university owned and operated community center. Completely self-financed, the store gives all profits back to the students, faculty, staff & campus community through financial support of clubs, campus recycling, ASUA student government, Tucson Festival of Books, scholarships, and more.
