50th Anniversary Celebration at Woods Memorial Library
October 20, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pmFree
Five decades after opening its doors, the Woods Memorial Library still stands as a popular gathering place and vibrant community hub, serving customers as diverse as the neighborhoods that surround it.
Join the Library and neighborhood friends on Saturday, October 20 to look back at the last 50 years… and party like it’s 1968. Don’t forget to wear your tie-dye!
Activities will begin at 2 pm:
2–2:20 pm Listen to some special guest speakers, including Mr. George Woods, son of the Library’s namesake G. Freeman Woods, as he shares memories of his father, his legacy as Tucson City Councilman, and his unwavering support of libraries.
– Go way back with Marge Pellegrino in a fun Memory Gathering workshop (2:30–3 pm).
– Enjoy light refreshments.
– Check out activity stations throughout the library and outside, including a Classic Car Show and DJ Ricky Washuk spinning some great hits of the 60s.
– Don’t miss the hula hoop contest, bubble making zone, and craft table!
If that’s not enough, there will be a book giveaway for teens and children, while supplies last, and a Saguaro Selfie station!
With the second highest number of visitors across the Library’s 26 locations, Woods Memorial Library is proud to be a special part of the Amphi neighborhood. It was named in honor of G. Freeman Woods who served as a Tucson City Councilman for eight years, was a Flowing Wells School Board member for six years, and served on the Library Advisory Board.
This event is free and open to the public. The Library wishes to thank Antigone Books, Barrio Bread, Bookmans, The Book Stop, DJ Ricky Washuk, Feast, The Loft Cinema, Mildred & Dildred, Frank Pella, and Caroline Cowan for their generous support.
