Blues Heritage Festival at Rillito Downs Park

October 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 6:30 pm

$12 – $15

The Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation announces the 33rd Annual Blues Heritage Festival will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Gates at Rillito Downs Park will open at 10:00am and the concert is from 11:00am-6:30pm.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate on the day of the festival ($50 VIP packages available).

This year’s festival headliner is Big LLou and the BluesVille Revue. Big LLou Johnson has been described as “a modern-day renaissance man with multi-faceted talents.” He has worked in front and behind the camera, as an actor (a guest appearance on Mom), broadcaster (announcer for XM Sirius Satellite Radio’s B.B. King’s Bluesville), and voiced animated characters (PARE in George Lucas’ Strange Magic).  As a singer/songwriter, his soulful bass vocals led the Chicago Blues Guide to state that “…listening to the smooth and sultry bass voice of Big LLou Johnson is akin to eating chocolate-just one taste leaves you craving more.”  His first CD release, They Call Me Big LLou (2011) was #6 on Amazon’s Hot New Blues Releases and Chicago Blues guide claimed that this debut CD is “bringing sexy back to the blues.” The stellar musicians Big LLou has gathered to join him on stage are likewise individually deserving of the main spotlight. Blues fans will be thrilled to discover Johnny Rawls, Zac Harmon, Bob Corritore, Nellie ‘Tiger’ Travis, Steve Grams, Brian Fahey, Jimi ‘Primetime’ Smith, and Mark ‘Doc’ Holladay all on stage-keeping the blues alive!

Rounding out the all-day festival schedule are JW Jones, Zo and the Soul Breakers, Black Cat Bones, and Amphi High School’s Funky Panthers. Gary Bagnoche, SABHF Vice-President shared, “Our goal is to present a lineup of performers that are diverse in their style, blues genre, and geographic origins. The blues has a rich tradition; performers both embrace those origins and build upon them with layers of innovative interpretation and fresh perspective. We want our community of festival guests to experience a show like no other!”
