Moon Viewing Party at Main Library

October 28, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Come in costume to celebrate Joel D. Valdez Main Library’s new telescope, a gift from the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association.

See the moon through the 4.5-inch Orion AstroBlast telescope and learn how to use it in your own backyard.

Explore the night sky with the Portable Planetarium. Conduct science experiments with BrainSTEM.

Those in costume may enter a drawing for a Galileoscope, a small refractor telescope.

As part of its community outreach, the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association provided the telescope for checkout to library customers. The group chose this type of telescope for its easy operation and compact design.

The introductory-level sky viewing instrument is capable of imagining the moon, planets, and distant celestial objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy, which is 2.5 million light years away.
