Music Under the Stars at Reid Park

It’s a happy sign that the hot summer is on its way out when the Tucson Pops Orchestra begins the fall series of Music Under the Stars™ at Reid Park!
The Orchestra will present concerts on Sept 9, 16, and 23.
September 9– Guest Conductor Linus Lerner: The first concert of the fall season includes an array of old favorites including Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree and Girl from Ipanema and Tequila! Linus Lerner, will guest conduct the first half of the concert. Lerner is currently the Music Director and conductor for the Southern AZ Symphony Orchestra and others. The orchestra will perform Neal Diamond’s The Jazz Singer, a Trombone feature, Magic Slides, and more.
September 16 – Tucson Pops Shines! Guest Conductor Greg Helseth – A potpourri of pops favorites selected to highlight the many talents of the orchestra. From Beethovan’s Symphony No, 5 and Strauss’s playful Tritsch-Tratsch- Polka, to the fabulous musical scores from Exodus and Fiddler on the roof, this one has wide appeal and should be a real crowd pleaser. Greg Helseth will guest conduct the first half of this concert. Helseth is principal horn with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln, Nebraska, and as soloist, clinician, and on-call hornist in Southern Arizona. He frequently joins the horn section with the Tucson Pops Orchestra as well.
September 23 – Evening with Jack – Jack Neubeck, one of Tucson’s top vocalists (and Vice President of the Tucson Pops Board of Directors) graces the stage for with a medley of some of hit favorites – tunes he has performed over the world like the Solilquy from “Carousel”, If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler, The Music Man, New York, New York and two classic pieces from La Cage – Song on the Sand and I Am What I Am.
The DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center is located off Country Club just north of 22nd Street. Parking is available at the Randolph Park Golf Course parking lot, Alvernon Way just north of 22nd Street with shuttle service to the band shell beginning at 5:30pm. Look for the weekly “Food Truck Roundup” at each Pops Concerts featuring a variety of Tucson’s best food trucks providing attendees with outstanding picnic fare.
