An Overview of the Holocaust at Oro Valley Public Library

Join Oro Valley Public Library for this two-session series on the Holocaust. Learn about how it began, how people and countries responded, and how the world has reacted to genocides that have occurred since. Discussion and questions will be encouraged.

Topics covered will include:

  • Why was Hitler determined to rid Europe of its Jewish population?
  • How did non-Jewish citizens in Germany and countries occupied by German forces respond to the destruction of the Jews?
  • Why were Jewish ghettoes created in Eastern Europe?
  • Why, when, where, and how did the extermination of Europe’s Jews begin?
  • What were the significant factors that influenced survival in the killing camps?
  • How did the U.S. react to the ongoing extermination of the European Jews?
  • Did the Jews resist?
  • Denmark saved its Jewish population. What was unique about Denmark?
  • Were there other groups of Europeans Hitler wished to exterminate?
  • How has the world reacted to genocides which have taken place since the end of World War II?
