Snapshot Memoir Writing at Nanini Library

October 20, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Sifting through old photographs can allow long-forgotten memories to creep back. In this workshop, you will study a few treasured images and use various writing exercises to shift from the surface stories to the deeper narratives waiting to be told.

Techniques will include flash creative nonfiction, a compact form of memoir-writing that suits this unique project. Be ready for writing exercises, reading aloud, and discussion.

For all adult writers. Space is limited to 15 participants.

Once registered, please bring:

– A notebook or paper, and a pen or pencil

– Three of your older, printed family photographs – any size – that stand out to you for particular reasons. These will likely picture you and/or your close family members, backgrounds with a variety of details, unique architecture/natural environments, or certain “moods” that intrigue you. All photos should have a strong personal significance to you and be at least 10 years old. Black and white or color photos work equally well.
