On Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, 2022 Dancing in the Streets Arizona (DITSAZ) presents “The Nutcracker: El Cascanueces” ballet, with Live Music by the Civic Orchestra of Tucson. Performances are scheduled for 2:00pm and will take place at the Temple and Music and Art. The Nutcracker, Snowflakes, Sword Fights, and Dancing Dolls. Let your imagination transport you to a land of Magical dancing and childhood dreams. Be swept away by Tchaikovsky’s iconic score as the Sugar Plum Fairy, heroine Clara, and a cast of hundreds take you on a magical journey to mystical lands. This full-length traditional production is choreographed and directed by Founders and Artistic Directors Joseph Rodgers and Soleste Lupu. Dancing toys, mischievous mice, waltzing flowers, and sparkling snowflakes dance to Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous score performed live by The Civic Orchestra of Tucson. The Nutcracker ballet is based on the classic E.T.A. Hoffmann tale, featuring the magical toymaker Herr Drosselmeyer, Claire, her beloved Nutcracker Prince, twirling Snowflakes, and battling mice.
