Winter Camp at Reid Park Zoo

An event every day that begins at 9:00am, repeating until December 29, 2017
Explore wildlife and the winter season during the school holiday break at Zoo Winter Camp. Each day of camp will focus on a different theme and will be filled with up close animal encounters, zoo tours, hands-on activities, and Holiday-themed crafts and games. Additionally, each day will include unstructured play-time to promote social-emotional learning and foster creativity and problem solving skills.
You can register your child for one, two, or all three days of camp depending on your schedule. Winter Camp is fun for all kids ages 6-12. Prices are $45 per day for members and $55 for non-members.
Wednesday, December 27: Animal Adaptions for Winter – Your child(ren) will learn about the physical or behavioral adaptations animals have that allow them to survive winter in the wild. They will be introduced to topics relating to hibernation and brumation. Students will design their own animal with winter adaptations and participate in an activity that demonstrates body insulation in arctic animals.
Thursday, December 28: Winter at the Zoo – Your child(ren) will learn about the Zoo and the preparations we take to keep the animals in our care safe and warm during the winter in Tucson. They may help Zookeepers prepare animal night houses for the colder evening temperatures and participate in a craft to build their own winter habitats. They will be introduced to topics relating to hibernation, animal adaptations, brumation, zoo animal care, and habitat maintenance.
Friday, December 29 : Winter Changes – Your child(ren) will learn about the winter season, how and why it is changing, and how/why animals are or are not adapting. They will be introduced to topics that cover climate change, animal pelage, and arctic habitats.
