UA Presents welcomes the Zoppé Family Circus back to Reid Park for six performances that will captivate the entire family. Last season’s audiences were charmed and dazzled; this year, the circus will feature new surprises and guests.
The Zoppé family has been in the circus business since 1842, when a French street clown and a Hungarian equestrienne ballerina ran off to Venice where they married and started a dynasty now in its sixth generation. The intimate 500-seat tent honors the best of Old-World Italian tradition. Family patriarch Giovanni Zoppé as Nino the Clown takes the audience on a journey that features acrobatic feats, equestrian showmanship, canine capers, clowning, and plenty of audience participation. “We try to touch every emotion,” he says. “They’ll laugh, they’ll cry, and they’ll feel for the characters. We tell a story during our show – the story of our family.”
The New York Times proclaims, “The Zoppé circus evokes something from a picture book: the clown, the trapeze, the dancing dogs, the ring and the tent. The show is frozen in time…exactly the way it’s supposed to be.”
