McDonald Park Tucson

McDonald Park is a spacious and scenic park in Northeast Tucson with one of the best playgrounds in the city. 

The 38-acre park also boasts spectacular mountain views, lighted baseball/softball fields, batting cages, a lighted basketball court, soccer/football fields, a sand volleyball court, walking paths, and a dog park.

General Information

Where is McDonald Park located?

McDonald Park is in northeast Tucson at 4100 North Harrison Road.

When is the park open?

The park is open daily, dawn to 10:00pm.

Why would I visit McDonald Park?

  • To participate in or cheer on a little league, baseball, or softball team
  • To shoot some hoops
  • To slide and swing on the playgrounds
  • To attend a birthday party
  • To take your pooch out for a bit of playtime

How much does it cost to visit the park?

Admission to the park is free.

What is the parking situation at McDonald Park?

Parking is free (but not covered). There are 266 spots available. 

Are restrooms available?

Yes. There are three separate restrooms - on the north, middle, and south ends of the park. 

What should I bring with me when I visit the park?

Maybe a picnic blanket, a basketball, or a baseball mitt? Sun safety is encouraged. Prepare for a perfect day at the park with a hat, drinking water, and sunscreen. 

Are dogs permitted at McDonald Park?

Yes. There is a designated dog park in the north section of the park.

What is the best season for visiting the park?

October thru April are ideal because the temperatures tend to be more moderate than in the summer months.

PLAYGROUNDS

How many playgrounds are there at McDonald Park?

There is one playground area with separate spaces for younger children (ages 2-5) and older children (ages 5-12). The playground has multiple slide lengths, climbing apparatuses, and swings.

What is the ground surface beneath the playgrounds?

The ground surface is a mixture of sawdust and soft "rubber."

Are the playgrounds shaded?

Yes. A colorful canopy covers most of the playground equipment.

Is there an area for tots & babies?

Yes. There are several small slides and two baby swings. 

*Note that the playground for ages 5-12, which is right next to the playground for ages 2-5, is pretty tall and adventurous toddlers are often inevitably drawn to it. As a result, this park may prove to be stressful for parents of toddlers. ;)

How many tables are there at McDonald Park?

There are 16 picnic tables, 9 with an accompanying barbecue grill.

There are also 6 ramadas (with tables and grills) at McDonald Park.

The rate to reserve a ramada is $25/day:

  • Ramada #1 - electricity, 4 tables, and 2 grills
  • Ramada #2 - electricity, 1 table, and a grill
  • Ramada #3 - electricity, 1 table, and a grill
  • Ramada #4 - electricity, 1 table, and a grill
  • Ramada #5 - electricity, near volleyball court, 3 tables, and a grill
  • Ramada #6 - electricity, near basketball court, 3 tables, and a grill

Yes.

Yes.

Is there an on-site restaurant or cafe?

McDonald Park does not have an on-site restaurant, but there is a concession stand/snack bar, which is open when games are in-session.

Try one of the following restaurants, which are within a 4-mile radius of McDonald Park:

  • Le Buzz Caffe, 9121 E. Tanque Verde Rd #125 (1.7 miles away) - fresh roasted coffee, espresso bar, baked goods, breakfast, sandwiches, soup, salad, favorite of hikers and cyclists
  • Bear Canyon Pizza (2 miles away) - pizza, calzones, pasta, craft beer, wine
  • Zona 78, 7301 E. Tanque Verde Rd (3.6 miles away) - Italian restaurant, artisan pizza, pasta, wine + beer

How close is the nearest grocery store?

Pick up picnic supplies before heading to the park! Safeway, at 9125 E. Tanque Verde Rd, is 1.7 miles away.

McDonald Park has:

Where is the sand volleyball court located? What are the usage policies?

The sand volleyball court is on the NE side of the park. Visitors can play on a first-come, first-served basis (those with a paid event permit have precedence). There is a permanent net in place, however, visitors are encouraged to bring their own in case the net is missing.
