Morris K. Udall Park (known to most Tucsonans as simply "Udall Park") is one of the largest parks on the East Side of Tucson. Positioned along Tanque Verde Road just east of Sabino Canyon Road, the 173-acre park is home to a recreation center, outdoor amphitheater, sports fields, pickleball courts, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, bocce courts, a playground, an off-leash dog park, a splash pad, and three different walking paths (0.5, 0.6, and 0.8 miles).

The walking paths are part of the Chuck Huckelberry Loop, which connects the Santa Cruz River, the Rillito, Pantano, Harrison Greenway, and Julian Wash for a total of more than 136 miles. 

The Morris K. Udall Center is also on-property and boasts the following amenities.

Sun safety is encouraged. Prepare for a perfect day at the park with a hat, drinking water, snacks, and sunscreen.

October thru April are ideal because the temperatures tend to be more moderate than in the summer months. That said, Udall Park can definitely be enjoyed in the summer months – especially because there is a swimming pool (open April-November), splash pad (open April-October), and indoor walking track available at the on-site Morris K. Udall Center.

PLAYGROUNDS

How many playgrounds are there at Udall Park?

One. The brightly colored green & turquoise playground has two slides, a climbing apparatus, a drum, a small rock climbing style wall, monkey bars, and swings. 

Are the playgrounds shaded?

Partially shaded.

Is there an area for tots & babies?

The playground is small and well-suited for toddlers. There are also baby swings.

PICNIC AREA

How many tables are there at Udall Park?

Quite a few concrete picnic tables (some uncovered; some with ramadas) are located throughout the park.

Are trash cans available and easily accessible?

Yes.

Are there BBQ grills?

Yes.

Is power available at all of the ramadas?

Power is not guaranteed, but may be available.

Is there an on-site restaurant or cafe?

No. There are vending machines inside the Udall Center.

Is it free to use the sand volleyball courts? What are the hours? Is equipment available for rent?

It is free to use the sand volleyball courts when not rented, but nets are not provided.

Outdoor nets and volleyballs are available for rent at the recreation center. A $100.00 deposit is required (credit card preferred). When the net and equipment are returned, a refund is processed.

PICKLEBALL

Is it free to use the pickleball courts?

Yes. It is free to use the pickleball courts.

What are the hours?

Park hours are 6:00am - 10:30pm.

Can the pickleball courts be reserved in advance?

No. The courts are first-come, first-served - and are VERY popular. Arrive with a smile and plentiful patience & flexibility.

Is equipment available for rent?

Yes. You can check out complimentary equipment at the Udall Center. ID required.

Does Udall Park have any tennis courts?

Udall Park used to have tennis courts, but they were replaced by pickleball courts in 2021.

MORRIS K. UDALL CENTER

The Morris K. Udall Center is a well-used community space for people of all ages.

The center includes:

  • Classrooms for Tucson Parks & Rec classes

  • Pottery studio
  • Weight room

Daily ($1.50-$2), quarterly ($35-$51), and annual passes ($133-$195) are available.

Are there indoor volleyball courts at the Udall Center? What are the hours? Is there a fee to play/use them?

There is a multi-use gymnasium that can accommodate volleyball set-up. "Open Volleyball" for ages 15+ is on Saturdays from 1:00pm - 3:45pm. In order to participate, you must be a member or pay the daily fee. 

SWIMMING POOL

Udall pool, located at Morris K. Udall Park, is a 25-yards by 25-meter pool, with depths ranging from 4-13.5 feet. A diving area has 1- and 3-meter diving boards. The lap swimming course is 25 yards.

A new 1,257 sqft splash pad opened at Udall Park in April 2022.

Can I rent a ramada for a birthday party or other event?

Yes. You can rent a ramada at Udall Park for a birthday party or special event.

  • Full-day ramada reservation is $25 for City residents and $30 for non-City residents.
  • Holiday rates are $45 for City residents and $55 for non-City residents.
  • Beer/Wine permits are $25 for City residents and $30 for non-City residents.
  • Proof of address will be required to confirm you are a City of Tucson resident.
