Purple Heart Park, located at 10050 East Rita Road in Southeast Tucson, will be receiving some (much needed) updates this year!
The work will include:
- development of a new parking lot on the park’s east side off of Rees Loop with security lighting
- a new playground area with security lights for ages 5-12
- a new playground area with lights near the existing swings for ages 2-5
- an extension of the walking path along the south Park boundary over to Rees Loop
Improvements have been agreed upon with the Rita Ranch Neighborhood Association (RRNA) Park Committee.
The current size of Purple Heart Park will not change, but the playgrounds will be brand new additions.
Project Manager Joe O’Neill says that the “tentative construction schedule is to start work this spring and be completed by end of August 2015.”
Sadly, no splash pad is currently proposed for this park. That said, don’t forget that Purple Heart Park does have an existing swimming pool where swim lessons are available in the summer through the Tucson Parks & Recreation Department.
