The Ott Family YMCA is one of five locations in the YMCA of Southern Arizona network.
Located on Prudence Road between Broadway & 22nd Streets on Tucson's East side, the 48,425-square foot facility is tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood.
Originally opened in 1968, the Ott Family YMCA has been through multiple renovations, with the most recent occurring in 2010. That was a $3.2 million project that brought "significant upgrades to every area of the Y, including the addition of an indoor gymnasium, improved accessibility, upgraded pools, and construction of a splash pad."
The Ott Family YMCA has a robust group exercise schedule offering a variety of classes for all ages and abilities including pilates, yoga, zumba, aqua fitness, boot camp, and SilverSneakers to name a few.
With over 40 classes per week, there are opportunities for all ages and abilities. Unique classes and groups at this location include cancer survivorship, martial arts, personal training, adult basketball, a hiking club, and pickle ball.
Kids are a large part of any YMCA and Ott is no exception. Look through the catalog to find after-school camps, swim lessons, swim team, sports, martial arts, and tumbling. Other fun options: volleyball clinics, skateboard lessons, off-season basketball training, hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, and archery.
If you have little ones, members have access to the Child Watch program for children who are 6 weeks to 9 years. Members receive 2 free hours of Child Watch per day while using the facility. Child Watch staff are required to have previous work experience, CPR & First Aid certification, a criminal background screening, a TB test, and a fingerprint clearance card. Child to staff ratios vary by age and program, anywhere between 1:5 to 1:20.
The Ott Family YMCA also offers monthly Parents Night Out events and other seasonal community events such as a Dive-In Movie, an Underwater Easter Egg Hunt, and a Trunk or Treat event.
Memberships at any YMCA are generally affordable. In addition to use of the facilities, members also have access to all group exercise classes, an initial meeting with a YMCA trainer to develop a wellness program, three free personal training sessions for every member, one free session of swim lessons for every member of the family, and use of the free child watch while you work out! Another big perk? A membership provides access to YMCA facilities nationwide. On vacation? You can work out and enjoy access to any of the 2,700 YMCAs in the USA.
A two-adult family membership is currently $65/mo. A single parent family membership is $59/mo. and individual adult memberships are $38/mo. Family memberships include all dependents who are under 22 years of age and living in the same household. Discounted membership rates for military families are also available. Note that you may also have to pay a small entry fee (~$50) upon joining.
The YMCA of Southern Arizona offers financial scholarships to those children and families that want to experience the YMCA but do not have the resources to cover the full fees. Scholarship paperwork is available at the branch. See the front desk for assistance.
