Resort Report: The Phoenician (Scottsdale)

The Phoenician, A Luxury Collection Resort is a luxury family-friendly resort in Scottsdale with beautiful grounds, top-rated dining venues, attentive staff members, and a plethora of amenities for every kind of traveler.

Singles, couples, and business travelers will enjoy the immaculate rooms, inviting social spaces, fully equipped spa, spacious fitness center, adults-only pool, and recreation options (including golf, tennis, pickleball, and basketball).

Families will appreciate the connecting room options as well as the multi-tiered pools, waterslide, splash pad, playground treehouse, game room, and activity menu of kid-friendly events.

ROOMS

Whether you are traveling solo, as a couple, with your kids, or part of a business group, there are a number of different guestroom, suite, and casita options to fit your needs. Luxurious, generously sized bathrooms feature oversized tubs and upscale toiletries.

SWIMMING

Wait until you see the Kids Zone at The Phoenician! If you have children (ages 1-12+), they will go crazy over the colorful splash pad, attached treehouse, and winding 197-foot waterslide (which starts as a closed tube and opens about midway through). Exceptionally well-done, parents can lounge in nearby seats or rent a cabana for a truly relaxing and fun experience for the whole family.

Note that the waterslide is typically open from 11:00am to 5:00pm and has a height requirement of 42 inches. It's great for new swimmers because the slide doesn't end in the swimming pool (in other words, you won't get dunked underwater with the current).

If you have older children or teens, they'll love that The Phoenician has a number of different swimming pools as well as long lines of loungers with uniformed attendants waiting to assist you with towels, water, or menu items.

Seeking a bit of solitude? There's an adults-only pool for that! You'll probably also want to book an appointment at the Phoenician Spa...

PHOENICIAN SPA

The Phoenician Spa is spacious, gorgeous, and immaculate. You won't be disappointed by this sparkling, elegant, and calming space - where you can get a pedicure/manicure, book a massage, take a fitness class, or enjoy the rooftop pool.

The spa facilities include:

  • Nalon salon (6 ultra-comfortable pedicure loungers and 4 manicure stations)
  • Couples massage room
  • 6 facial rooms
  • 16 massage/body treatment rooms
  • A VIP Suite for couples or small groups
  • Quiet relaxation room
  • Men's and women's locker rooms with hot tub, steam room, and sauna
  • Fitness Center
  • Drybar
  • Retail boutique
  • Rooftop pool

Complimentary water bottles, towels, and snacks are available. Note that children 15 years and younger are not permitted in the fitness center or the classes.

The Nail Salon at the Phoenician Spa is especially posh - with comfortable lounge chairs, complimentary infused water, and nail techs with 20+ years of service. A 25-minute pedicure or manicure will run between $35-$50, depending on the season.

PHOENICIAN ATHLETIC CLUB

The Phoenician Athletic Club is a fitness enthusiast's dream! If you enjoy working out while on vacation, don't hesitate to book a stay at The Phoenician. The first story of the athletic club includes a lifestyle shop and a game room, while the second story is a full fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Let's start on the second floor. You'll find almost any and every workout machine that you might want in this 4,600+ square foot space - including ellipticals, treadmills, weights, and more. There is also a movement studio with “fitness on demand” technology, providing guests with hundreds of virtual classes via touchscreen from yoga to spin. The Fitness Center is available 24 hours for guests.

Moving to the first floor, the 2,100+ square foot Rec Room is an outstanding place to visit with your kids!

The room includes:

  • Pool table
  • Ping pong table
  • Foosball
  • Shuffleboard
  • Arcade games (free!)
  • Big screen TV
  • Board games
  • Gaming systems

Beyond the indoor facilities, you'll also find seven inviting tennis courts, two pickleball courts, and a half-basketball court. The on-site golf course offers eighteen holes.

ON-SITE OR NEARBY ACTIVITIES

It would be easy to stay the whole weekend without leaving the property at The Phoenician. Aside from swimming, working out, playing games at the athletic club, and visiting the spa you can also: play tennis or pickleball (1 complimentary hour with your resort fee), ride bikes (2 hours free daily with your resort fee), or take a walk.

A prime advantage of The Phoenician over other Scottsdale resorts is that it is not tucked way up north (like The Westin Kierland or the Four Seasons). If you need (or want) to spend part of your trip in Downtown Phoenix for business, theatre, or museums, the drive is only about 20 minutes.

You can also hop in the car for a quick 7-minute drive to Scottsdale Fashion Square for a bit of shopping (Crate & Barrel, J. Crew, Janie and Jack, Kate Spade, Lululemon, Nordstrom, Sur La Table), dining (Chipotle, Fired Pie, Johnny Rockets, Paradise Bakery & Cafe, Shake Shack, Starbucks), or movie-watching (Harkins Theatres).

If you have littles, you can visit McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park (12 minutes away), wander The Phoenix Zoo (15 minutes away), hike Camelback Mountain (7 minutes away), or pick up a sweet treat at Sprinkles Cupcakes (7 minutes away).

DINING

There are eight dining options at The Phoenician:

  1. J&G Steakhouse - award-winning restaurant with refined cuisine
  2. Mowry & Cotton (pictured below) - serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour
  3. The Phoenician Tavern - burgers, beer, handcrafted cocktails
  4. Afternoon Tea - offered on most days, 2:00-3:00pm, voted "Best Afternoon Tea"
  5. Thirsty Camel Bar - food & beverages with live entertainment, 2:00pm-11:00pm
  6. Kalio Kabobery - Mediterranean inspired cuisine by the pool
  7. The Marketplace - house-made pastries, tasty sandwiches, decadent desserts, specialty coffees, and an array of creamy gelato with fresh waffle cones
  8. 19th Hole - golf course grill & patio, open for breakfast & lunch

RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT: Mowry & Cotton

Mowry & Cotton is a warm and laidback restaurant featuring a rich, cabin-like feel with wood beams, oversized bottles, and plaid chairs. Well-trained and knowledgeable servers wear denim shirts with suspenders. Both indoor and outdoor seating options are available and you might be surprised to find that the outdoor dining experience can be quite pleasant year round (due to Scottsdale's dry, mild climate and misters for extra-warm days).

RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT: The Phoenician Tavern

You'll have to look twice at the resort map to find The Phoenician Tavern since it is not located in the main building, but the casual environment and delectable cuisine make it well worth the (short!) walk. Featuring American entrees that are chef-curated and packed with flavor, you can choose between burgers, sandwiches, salads, or pasta dishes. For an appetizer, we highly recommend the heavenly Pull Apart Pretzels and Crispy Brussels Sprouts. Undecided about the main attraction? The Arizona Cobb Salad is always a favorite and is both filling and flavorful while the Shrimp Stuffed Rigatoni is is a gourmet, satisfying dish that will make you wish it was good manners to lick your plate.

  • Happy Hour is daily from 2:00-4:00pm
  • Local craft beers and signature cocktails.
  • A children's menu is available.

KID-FRIENDLY

The Phoenician is one of the best resorts in Arizona for families!

Upon check-in, you will receive a full activity menu (you can also review it prior to your stay and make advance reservations). GOOD TO KNOW

  • If you're traveling with a baby, you can request a crib when you book your reservation.
  • Little ones, 3 years-old and younger, eat free of charge when ordering from the children’s menu with the purchase of an adult entrée at most of on-site restaurants.
  • The Funicians Club is not a drop-off kids club. It's an exciting space where families come together to participate in activities (sample options listed above). Be sure to browse the list of activities prior to your stay and make reservations that fit with your schedule. Some of the activities are free while others are fee-based. Reservations are required for most activities.
  • Don't miss the Family Photo Scavenger Hunt if it is available during your stay! It's a fun way to explore the resort and kids who complete the hunt receive a special treat.
