March is “Start Your Garden Month” at the Santa Cruz River Famers’ Market and there will be numerous activities during the month to help you start planting. Stop in at the Market in March for resources, information, and materials to help you start a garden.  Seedlings, gardening materials, and information about free gardening classes will be available every Thursday.

The Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market is located in the Mercado San Agustin at 100 S. Avenida Del Convento near the corner of Congress and Grande. It is held each Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

The monthly activities to help you start your garden are:

March 7 – Bonnie Wolf, Child Nutrition Education Coordinator will demonstrate how to cook seasonal produce that is available at the Market. She will also have children’s coloring exercises, puzzles, and nutrition information. The Community Food Bank Garden team will also host a SEED EXCHANGE. Bring your garden seeds to swap and let the team share their expertise about organic desert gardening.

March 14 – Chef Robert Oser will conduct a demonstration of cooking healthy vegetarian recipes. Rob is a retired natural foods chef and uses items available at the Market.

March 21 – Paula Maez from the Pima County Library will read an age appropriate book about vegetables, farms, and farmers’ markets.

March 28 – Lady Bug release and beneficial insects demonstration by Arbico Organics. See how bugs can benefit your garden with natural products for gardeners and growers.
