Put your nose in a book this summer…and earn prizes along the way!
Several Tucson bookstores and libraries offer fun reading programs during the summer months where your children can participate in events and earn rewards.
PIMA COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Pima County Public Library’s Summer Reading program runs between May and July 2018.
The program will kick off on Saturday, May 19 with a Family Fiesta at the Tanque Verde Swap Meet from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Kids can sign up for Summer Reading and enjoy a fun evening of live-action stories and crafts. Plus, they’ll get to meet Curious George and take home a brand new book to keep.
Can’t make it to the kick-off? Beginning May 19, kids can stop by any of the 26 library locations to pick up a reading tracker. Once they start reading, they’re encouraged to return to the Library to collect stickers and stamps to mark their progress. Plus, beginning June 1, they’ll be allowed to choose a FREE book to take home, while supplies last.
In addition to the Family Fiesta, the Library will also host hundreds of events for kids of all ages. DIY science, nature, storytimes, crafts, and more. Be sure to subscribe to the TucsonTopia newsletter to find out about all of the fun.
BOOKMANS KIDS CLUB AND READ 10, GET 1
This isn’t strictly for the summer months, but we have to put in a plug for the Bookmans Kids Club. Any child from birth up to age 12 can sign up for the club to receive a 10% store discount…PLUS a $10 gift certificate on his/her birthday.
Similarly, teens (ages 13 to 17) can register for 1317 – a special club that will get them a 15% store discount and a $15 birthday gift certificate.
ALSO – For every 10 books you read, Bookmans will give you one free. What’s the catch? Your child must write a short report for each book. When the 10 book reports are finished, bring them to your favorite Bookmans and SHAZAM – you’ll get to pick out a new book!
There are three Bookmans locations in Tucson – EAST: 6230 E. Speedway Blvd. (Speedway & Wilmot), NORTHWEST: 3733 W. Ina Rd (Ina & Thornydale), and MIDTOWN: 3330 E. Speedway Blvd (Speedway & Country Club).
BARNES & NOBLE SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The 2018 Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is free and open to grades 1-6. Here’s how it works: Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal. Describe which part of the book is your favorite (and why). Bring your completed journal to any Barnes & Noble store between May 15 and September 3. Choose your FREE book from the list featured on the back of the journal.
There are two Barnes & Noble Tucson stores – Eastside (5130 E. Broadway) and Westside (7325 N. LaCholla Blvd).
IF YOU LOVE BOOKS, YOU WILL PROBABLY ALSO WANT TO READ UP ON…
